Microplastics – Presence in Florida Marine Snails Reported

The abstract of a paper published September 22, 2021 in the journal Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution by researchers with the University of West Florida https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fevo.2021.645727/full report that “… The focus of this study was to quantify, characterize, and compare microplastics contamination in two predatory marine snail species from intertidal habitats in Florida … Ingestion results were also compared to microplastics contamination of water samples collected from the same locations … This is the first known study to demonstrate microplastics contamination of tissues in predatory marine intertidal snails. Marine intertidal snails may be good organisms for biomonitoring of microplastics in intertidal sandy habitats …” #MicroPlastics #SingleUsePlastic #PlasticWaste @UWF
