Single Use Plastic Beverage Bottles – Collection for Recycling – EU Rules and Targets Set

An October 7, 2021 European Union Directorate-General for Environment news release https://ec.europa.eu/environment/news/single-use-plastics-rules-calculation-verification-and-reporting-data-separate-collection_en reports that “… From 24 October 2021, according to Implementing Decision 2021/1752, EU Member States shall ensure that the targets for the separate collection for recycling of waste single-use plastic beverage bottles are calculated, verified and reported according to harmonised methodology and provisions. The Single-use Plastics Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/904) sets targets for the separate collection for recycling of waste single-use plastic beverage bottles. By 2025, Member States shall meet the target of 77% for the separate collection for recycling of waste single-use plastic beverage bottles, by weight of all such single-use bottles placed on the market.
