UpDate – Plastic Food Packaging Waste News

May 2, 2022

To: Readers of Plastic Food Packaging Waste News

I am writing to inform you that beginning June 30, 2022, the updates you have been receiving through www.pfpw.news will be coming to you from the non-profit I established in 2017, the Animal Digestible Food Packaging Initiative www.adfpi.org

The news service was established in 2020 as a Maryland Limited Liability Company (LLC) as a means of demonstrating the need for the Initiative, but on a fee for service basis – It turns out that while readers found the updates to be informative and useful, the reader complimentary distribution list kept growing, there were an insufficient number of paid subscribers to make continuation of the LLC possible.

Accordingly, effective July 1, 2022, the LLC will be discontinued with updates on environmental issues associated with plastic food packaging coming to all readers on a complimentary basis through the Initiative, which I am self-funding.

As background, the purpose of www.adfpi.org, the Initiative, is to convince/persuade/inspire the food industry to establish a public private partnership (PPP) for the discovery of new food packaging materials that would be digestible by animals – See the Initiative website for details.

~   The Initiative is seeking an individual with web master and social media experience to volunteer their time to make improvements in the Initiative home page, LinkedIn, Twitter and set up and manage these and other media platforms.

If because of this change, or any other reason, you wish to stop receiving our updates, I will understand; just drop me a note and I will promptly remove your email address from the distribution list.

About PFPW.NEWS

For the following reasons Improperly Discarded Plastic Food Packaging (IDPFP) is a food industry scientific, legislative, regulatory, and public affairs issue:

~   Wildlife, including marine food sources, are exposed to IDPFP in their natural environment.

     ~   Adverse biological effect studies are underway;

          ~   For some species, adverse biological effects have been demonstrated.

     ~   At the present time, there are no known adverse human health effects from exposure to IDPFP.

~   IDPFP that reaches the environment will over time naturally degrade into micro and nano size plastic fibers;

     ~   Research projects around the world are underway to learn of biological health effects.

~   Governments around the world are developing legislative and regulatory mandates to prevent the environmental release of IDPFP, including the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) where producers are required to accept financial or physical responsibility for the treatment or disposal of discarded consumer products.

~   Consumers are increasingly applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors to the companies from which they purchase consumer products and investors are applying ESG factors in their decision-making process.

~   Lawsuits against companies for alleged false environmental claims.

~   Recycling difficulties.

~   Constant social and mainstream media attention.

I do my best to keep our readers informed of current developments.
